Is GTA+ worth it? The honest verdict on the subscription
Image: Rockstar GamesGTA+ is Rockstar''s monthly membership for GTA Online, and it sits in a strange place: cheap enough that nobody agonises, useful enough that members defend it, and skippable enough that most players never notice life without it. This is the honest ledger, what it costs, exactly what you get, the maths, and the verdict by player type, checked against the current offering as of early August 2026.
Step 1: what it costs, and where it works
- US$7.99 a month since the 2024 price rise, listed around £6.99 on UK storefronts, on PS5, Xbox Series and PC Enhanced only, so older-generation players are out regardless
- Timely UK note: every GTA 6 pre-order currently includes one free month of GTA+, and the £89.99 Ultimate Edition carries a month digitally, so a lot of people are about to try it for nothing
Step 2: what you actually get
- GTA$500,000 deposited monthly on billing, the headline perk
- The Vinewood Club: a 100-vehicle Club Garage, monthly free-to-claim vehicles from the Car Club showroom, member discounts and test drives
- Member-only weekly multipliers that stack above the public bonuses, regularly turning 2x weeks into 4x for members
- Two Lucky Wheel spins a day instead of one, free vehicle requests and taxi rides, exclusive liveries and apparel
- Early access moments, like the El Strickler rifle arriving at the Gun Van a month early for members
- Shark Cards with 15% bonus GTA$ for members, and the growing Games Library of classic Rockstar titles, Red Dead Redemption with Undead Nightmare included, which has quietly turned GTA+ into a small Rockstar catalogue subscription
Step 3: the maths
- Valued at Shark Card exchange rates, the GTA$500,000 stipend alone is worth more than the fee, which is the argument members lead with
- The counterargument from this very desk: GTA$500,000 is one Cayo run, two Salvage robberies or a nightclub cycle, so a player following our money guides earns the stipend in an evening
- The real member value is therefore not the stipend, it is the 4x member weeks, the monthly claimable vehicles that regularly exceed GTA$1.5 million in shop value, and the 100-car garage for collectors
Step 4: who it is for
- Clear yes: car collectors, who get the biggest garage in the game plus a free vehicle most months
- Clear yes: weekly-event players, because member multipliers stack on the exact Thursday rhythm the whole modern economy runs on
- Reasonable yes: newer players, for whom the stipend and claims genuinely accelerate the early ladder
- Clear no: established grinders whose businesses already out-earn everything here, and anyone on older hardware where it does not exist
- Principled no is also fine: the game gives away every one of its actual systems free, and this desk documents all of them
The reference layer
The verdict in one paragraph: GTA+ is a good-value subscription and a bad substitute for playing well. Nothing behind the paywall changes how GTA Online works, it accelerates and decorates it, so treat the membership as a luxury for engaged current-gen players who will actually claim the monthly car and ride the member weeks, and as entirely optional for everyone else. And if you are pre-ordering GTA 6 anyway, your free month is coming, judge it firsthand and cancel without guilt if the ledger above does not describe you.
Where it fits
Every GTA$ figure in this verdict comes from the money, business and heist guides on this desk, which remain the free way to out-earn any stipend, at sixcentral.co.uk/online, on the site and in the SixCentral app.
Worth it for collectors and Thursday people, skippable for grinders, free for a month with your GTA 6 pre-order. Decide with the ledger, not the advert.
What you actually get
GTA+ is a monthly subscription available on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Enhanced PC. The contents rotate every month, but the structure is consistent.
- GTA$500,000 paid into your account every month. This alone covers most of the subscription cost for a player who values their time.
- A free vehicle each month, usually a new release given a week before general sale.
- Deeper Gun Van discounts. Where a non-member sees thirty per cent off, a member often sees forty.
- Rotating property and upgrade discounts, frequently fifty or sixty per cent off a business.
- Access to the GTA+ Games Library, which includes classic Rockstar titles.
- Assorted cosmetics: chameleon paints, liveries, clothing.
The maths, honestly
The half million a month is the load-bearing benefit. Everything else is variable.
A player who logs in weekly and takes the cash, the free car and one discounted property purchase is comfortably ahead. A player who logs in twice a month and takes only the cash is roughly breaking even. A player who forgets to claim is losing money.
That is the real test, and it is a behavioural one rather than a value one. GTA+ rewards routine. If you do not have one, it is not for you.
The catch nobody mentions
The benefits do not accumulate. The monthly GTA$500,000 must be claimed within that month, and the free vehicle must be claimed from the Vinewood Car Club before the month rolls over.
Miss a month and it is gone. There is no back-claiming. If you subscribe and then do not play for five weeks, you have paid for nothing.
Who it is genuinely worth it for
- Players who log in at least weekly and will actually claim the benefits. Clear yes.
- Players about to make a big property purchase, because the rotating discounts frequently hit businesses hard. Subscribing for one month to buy a discounted Agency or Nightclub can pay for itself several times over.
- Players who buy weapons regularly, because the Gun Van discount is meaningful over time.
- Players on PS4 or Xbox One. Not available, so the question does not arise.
Who should skip it
Anyone who plays in bursts. Two heavy weeks then a month off is the worst possible pattern for a subscription that resets monthly and does not carry over.
Also anyone still building their first business. The half million is nice, but a new player gets far more from an Acid Lab and a Kosatka than from a subscription, and those are one-off costs rather than a recurring one.
The strategic way to use it
Do not subscribe continuously out of habit. Watch what the monthly benefits are, and subscribe in the months where the discounts line up with something you were going to buy anyway.
A single month of GTA+ timed to a sixty per cent property discount plus the half million plus a free vehicle is one of the best value purchases in the game. Twelve consecutive months of forgetting to claim is one of the worst.
Monthly benefits rotate. Check what is included before deciding whether this month is one worth paying for.
