Business guide

The Salvage Yard: the complete business guide

The Salvage Yard arrived with The Chop Shop in December 2023 and brought the best idea GTA Online has had in years: proper little car-theft robberies, three a week, each with its own plan, target and getaway. It is a weekly-appointment business rather than a grind, it runs entirely solo, and consistent owners bank around a million a week from it without the operation ever feeling like work.

This guide is the loop: the purchase, the weekly robbery board, the keep-or-scrap decision and the passive layer underneath. Figures are checked against tracked community values as of early August 2026.

Step 1: buy the yard

  • Buy from Maze Bank Foreclosures, GTA$1,620,000 to GTA$2,690,000 by location
  • The yard comes with the tow truck operation and the robbery planning wall, and everything it offers runs solo

Step 2: run the weekly robberies

  • Three Robbery Contracts sit on the planning wall each week, each a compact steal-the-car job with its own prep work and finale
  • Current tracked payouts run GTA$250,000 to GTA$405,000 per robbery with bonuses for clean completions
  • The board resets weekly, so three robberies a week is the whole appointment, an hour or two of the best mission design in the business game

Step 3: make the keep-or-scrap call

  • Some robbery targets can be claimed as personal vehicles instead of sold, and certain weeks put genuinely desirable cars on the board
  • The maths is simple: scrap for the payout unless the car is one you would have paid more than the payout to own
  • Keeping the right car on the right week is one of the best vehicle deals in the game

Step 4: work the passive layer

  • The yard safe accrues daily, capping at GTA$24,000, so collect it when you pass
  • Tow truck jobs add steady small money and feed the safe, fine as filler, never the point
  • Together the passive layer roughly covers the property cost over time while the robberies do the real earning

The reference layer

Where the Salvage Yard sits in 2026: stacked across a week the three robberies land GTA$500,000 to GTA$700,000 an hour for the time actually spent, which puts the yard among the strongest solo purchases in the game per hour of attention. It asks for no supplies, no crew and no lorry convoys, just showing up once a week. The honest limit is the cap itself: three robberies is the ceiling, so this is a superb income floor and never a grind you can scale. Pair it with the weekly heist circuit and Thursday becomes a genuinely full payday.

Where it fits

The Salvage Yard belongs in the weekly-appointment column with the Kortz sale and the boosted heist runs: fixed effort, strong return, resets every week. Every guide in the programme is live on the online desk at sixcentral.co.uk/online, on the site and in the SixCentral app.

Buy the yard, rob the three, keep the occasional beauty, and empty the safe on your way out. The best businesses in Los Santos are the ones that respect your time.

How the weekly rhythm works

The Salvage Yard is the purest appointment business in GTA Online. Three vehicles appear on your list each week, you rob all three, and then you are done until the reset. There is no supply chain, no stock to defend and nothing to collect in between.

That makes it excellent for anyone who plays a couple of nights a week and terrible as a grind. You cannot run it harder to earn more.

The three robbery approaches

  • The Robbery approach is the loud one. Fastest to complete, most likely to go wrong, and perfectly fine solo if you bring armour.
  • The Cargo approach involves intercepting the vehicle in transit. Middle ground on both time and risk.
  • The Rig approach is the stealth option. Slowest, quietest, and the one to pick if you are running with someone unreliable.

Each of the three weekly vehicles is tied to a specific approach, so you do not get to choose freely. What you do get to choose is the order, and it is worth doing the one you find hardest first while you are fresh.

Keep the car or sell it

This is the decision the guide exists for. Once a vehicle is in your yard you can either sell it for the payout or keep it as a personal vehicle.

Sell it, almost always. The payout is GTA$250,000 to GTA$405,000 depending on the vehicle, which is real money for a twenty-minute job. Keeping it only makes sense when the weekly list throws up something genuinely rare or expensive that you actually want to drive, and that is a handful of times a year rather than a weekly dilemma.

Rockstar rotates the vehicle list, so a car you skipped will usually come round again.

The tow truck and the scrapping

The Salvage Yard also runs a tow truck side activity and a scrapping option for vehicles you own. Neither is where the money is.

Scrapping is worth knowing about for one reason: it is a way to clear vehicles out of a full garage for a small return, rather than paying to store things you never drive. Treat it as garage management rather than income.

Efficiency notes

  • Three robberies a week, roughly GTA$500,000 to GTA$700,000 an hour for the time actually spent.
  • All three are soloable. None of them require a crew.
  • Do them in one sitting. The setup overhead is per-robbery, so batching saves nothing, but you are less likely to forget.
  • Check the weekly list on Thursday. If the multiplier is on Salvage Yard robberies that week, prioritise them over almost everything else.
  • Location barely matters. Buy the cheapest unless you have a strong preference.

Is it worth GTA$1,620,000?

If you play weekly, comfortably yes. Three robberies pay it back inside a month and then it is free money on an appointment you never have to plan around.

If you play daily and want something to grind, no. Buy an Acid Lab or an Auto Shop instead and come back to this one later.
