The Hangar: the complete business guide

The Hangar arrived with Smugglers Run in 2017, spent years as the business everyone regretted, and then got good: updates made the loop friendlier, the single-type bonus turned a full hangar into a GTA$2.55 million sale, and the 2025 Money Fronts update even gave it a booster property. It is still a slow filler rather than a fast earner, but run on one simple rule it has become a genuinely respectable stockpile business, and the aviation is its own reward.

This guide is the rule and everything around it: the right hangar, the one-type discipline, solo-safe selling and the modern extras. Figures are checked against tracked community values as of early August 2026.

Step 1: buy the right hangar

  • Buy from Maze Bank Foreclosures, five locations from GTA$1,200,000 at LSIA Hangar A17 up to GTA$3,250,000
  • LSIA is cheap and city-adjacent for shorter road sells; Fort Zancudo costs more but carries a real perk, entering the military base without a wanted level
  • Location never changes payouts, and every hangar stores 20 aircraft on top of the business, which is half the reason plane people buy one at all

Step 2: start the business

  • Register as CEO, VIP or MC President and open Air Freight Cargo from inside the hangar
  • Sourcing missions are free: each solo run fetches one crate in roughly three to ten minutes, and the hangar holds fifty
  • The upgrades, workshop, living quarters and furnishings never change cargo value, so buy them for comfort, not profit; the living quarters spawn point is the one that saves real time

Step 3: the one rule, single-type sourcing

  • Pick one top-tier cargo type, Narcotics is the standard, Chemicals and Medical Supplies are identical, and source only that, all fifty crates
  • Same-type stacking earns a storage bonus that climbs to +70% at a full hangar; mixing types is the single biggest profit leak in this business
  • Rooster McCraw will source hands-free for GTA$25,000 a dispatch, but he brings random types, which quietly destroys the bonus; serious fills are manual

Step 4: sell by land, solo-safe by design

  • A full fifty of one top-tier type sells for GTA$2,550,000, against roughly GTA$1,500,000 for the same fifty crates mixed, which is the 70% rule in one comparison
  • Choose the land delivery whenever offered: land sells give a solo player a single vehicle regardless of stock, and the one air mission to avoid, the Bombushka, needs a second player
  • Sell in a busy public session and high demand pushes the full sale toward GTA$3,825,000, and on 2x weeks the numbers get silly

Step 5: the modern extras

  • Own the Higgins Helitours front from Money Fronts and air freight cargo sells for 10% more, which stacks on everything above
  • A hangar also unlocks the Cargo and Shipments technician for the Nightclub, the same slot a crate warehouse fills, so plane people get their feeder without buying a warehouse

The reference layer

The honest ledger: filling fifty crates one at a time is around eight hours of flying spread across sessions, which is why the Hangar sits mid-table in the 2026 meta, behind the Acid Lab, the Nightclub stack and the heists, and why it should never be an early purchase. But as a stockpile-and-bonus-week business for someone who enjoys the flying anyway, it has quietly become good: one type, land sells, Higgins owned, full loads only. Selling at twenty crates is not half a sale, the bonus curve means it is much worse than half, so the discipline is the whole strategy.

Where it fits

Buy it after the core stack, fill it between everything else, and cash it on multiplier weeks alongside the Special Cargo warehouse, the two stockpile businesses that reward the same patience. Every guide in the programme is live on the online desk at sixcentral.co.uk/online, on the site and in the SixCentral app.

One type, fifty crates, land delivery, full loads only. The sky pays properly now, as long as you refuse to mix.

LSIA or Fort Zancudo

There are five hangars, split between Los Santos International and Fort Zancudo. This is the one property decision in GTA Online where the cheap option is also the right one for most players.

Fort Zancudo hangars sit inside a military base. You will not get a wanted level for being in your own hangar, but you are a long way from the city, and taxiing out puts you in airspace where other players enjoy themselves. LSIA is central, has easier approaches, and is next to everything else you own.

Buy at LSIA. Buy the cheapest one there unless you have a specific reason not to.

How air freight actually works

You source crates and you sell crates, and the whole business lives or dies on how you handle both.

  • Crates come in three types: narcotics, medical supplies, animal materials, chemicals, art, jewellery, tobacco, counterfeit goods and more, grouped into tiers by value.
  • You can source one, two or three crates per mission. Three at a time is far more time efficient, and the per-crate cost difference is not enough to change that.
  • Storage caps at fifty crates.
  • Crucially, mixed cargo sells for less than a single type. Fifty crates all of one high-tier type is worth around GTA$2,550,000. Fifty mixed crates is worth substantially less.

That last point is the whole guide. If you accept every source mission you are offered, you will end up with a mixed load and a worse payout. Being selective about what you source is the single biggest lever you have.

The stockpile strategy

The hangar is not a business you sell weekly. It is a bank.

Fill it slowly over a few sessions while doing other things, hold the stock, and sell only when Rockstar puts a multiplier on air freight cargo. Selling fifty crates at base rate when a double week is three days away is throwing away over two million.

Check the weekly update on Thursday. If air freight is boosted, that is your sell night. If it is not, keep sourcing.

Selling without losing it

  • Sell destination and vehicle count both scale with how much you are carrying. A full fifty-crate sale solo is a genuinely long mission.
  • Some sale missions hand you aircraft with poor handling and a tight timer. Know the map and pick your line before you take off.
  • A private session is worth more than any bonus for selling in public. Use one where the mission allows.
  • If a sale gives you multiple vehicles and you are alone, expect to make several trips. Budget the time before you start rather than discovering it halfway through.

The workshop nobody mentions

The hangar includes an aircraft workshop, which is where you fit weapons, countermeasures, liveries and armour to planes and helicopters you own.

If you fly at all, this is not optional. Adding countermeasures to an aircraft is the difference between surviving a homing missile and walking back from a crash site. For a lot of players the workshop justifies the hangar more convincingly than the cargo business does.

Is it worth it?

As a primary earner, no. Air freight is slow to fill and the sale missions are long, which is why it sits low on most business rankings.

As a stockpile you fill in the background and cash out on a bonus week, plus a workshop for every aircraft you own, yes. Buy it late, treat it as a savings account, and never sell it on an ordinary week.
