GTA 6 Gameplay Is Finally Here: Everything The Extended Look Confirmed
Image: Rockstar GamesRockstar released An Extended Look and the internet did what the internet does. It clipped the dog, argued about the graphics and moved on. We did something slower. We pulled 480 frames from all 26 minutes and 48 seconds, pinned every one to its exact second in the video, and read the lot. What follows is the full picture, and every timestamp here matches the public upload, so you can check us as you go.
A warning before we start. This gets long, because the video is absurdly dense. Rockstar packed more confirmed systems into this one presentation than most games show across a whole marketing cycle.
The opening is one unbroken, playable shot
From 0:09 to 2:47 there is not a single edit. Jason and Lucia walk a night street, talk their way past a door crew, cross a lobby, wait for a lift with Boobie Ike scrolling his phone, ride it, thread two corridors and duck through a hole smashed in a wall, all in one take. And the prompts prove you are playing it. Interaction chips fire at 0:58 for two named locals, and at 1:54 the famous dog moment arrives with four verbs on screen. Scold, pet, study, dog. Study is the naturalist verb from Red Dead Redemption 2, back and pointed at a city stray. Stroke the dog and a grinning reaction emote pops beside it. The block even keeps a dog corner, bowl, bed and food sack under the graffiti.
A deal dies at 2:19am
The kitchen behind that wall is a full production line. Respirators, marigold gloves, bricks on the table, a woman cooking in a mask. At 3:42 a phone rings on the powder dusted steel, and the close up at 4:10 shows the caller. Unknown. The time reads 02:19. Nobody answers on screen. The room freezes, and half a minute later Jason is fighting out with a pump shotgun and a red duffel through a green lit basement. Rockstar built the entire cold open on a question it refuses to answer, which reads like a promise about the campaign.
Quiet or loud, on a car door
At 6:05 Jason stands at a red convertible outside W. Blancos Cuban Foods, under a mural of a bald eagle with an assault rifle, and gets a choice. Slim jim on triangle. Smash window on circle. It looks like flavour until 12:06, when the same stolen car needs a tool worked into the steering column to start, because a slim jimmed car was never hot wired. Quiet costs you later. That is the design philosophy of the whole game in one pair of prompts. And at 6:23 the camera lingers on the fridge in the flat belonging to Lucia. Three handwritten notes. Keep smiling. You are strong. Hydrate, drink that water. A printed selfie of the pair. A Lombank magnet. A woman fresh out of prison coaching herself through the mornings, told entirely on a fridge door.
The Good Mart job, start to finish
The robbery loop runs 11:36 to 12:15 and every beat is a system. They stage from a barn overlooking a rail freight yard. They case the aisles past Cold Gold fridges with the wanted interface already on screen. The counter carries an advert for Rough Seas, the smoothest rum. The masked portrait at 11:53 is a magazine cover, and Jason robs the state store wearing a Leonida tourist tee with a cartoon manatee on it. At 12:00 the camera catches him racking the shotgun inside a trucks wing mirror. At 12:05 he vaults the freezer chest. At 12:06 Lucia starts the car with a tool. The peel out at 12:08 has her leaning bodily out of the window, and by 12:15 they are on a balcony debriefing with Brian Heder, who is smoking, and Jason gets a prompt of his own. Smoke, on R1. Ambient vices are an interaction now.
The Raul run
The chase from 12:30 to 15:16 is a systems showcase wearing a car chase as a disguise. A cruise liner sits at the port as the GPS draws the route. A billboard reads Over A New Leaf. The crash at 13:40 deploys an airbag that then sags and deflates over the dash. By 14:00 the pursuit is at four stars and the sky visibly storms over mid sequence. A police helicopter hangs above the deco blocks. A cruiser flips end over end. A stray dog sprints through the middle of the gunfight, uninvolved and terrified. And the freeze frame at 14:17 is the best interface shot in the reveal. A thin ring reticle on the cruiser, twelve of two hundred and fifty on the carbine, four stars, and beneath them a row of red icons showing exactly what the police know about you. A camera for CCTV, a couple, a clothes hanger, a person and a gun. Rockstar has confirmed these are heat icons, evidence vectors you can strip away one by one, and our full explainer on the system lands this week.
Losing the heat is a procedure
Escape is no longer a timer. At 15:43 they idle past a parked cruiser with the stars still lit and simply look boring. They swap cars inside a structure and come out in a maroon van at 16:16. Raul takes the holdall at 16:42 and walks. And the pair emerge in changed clothes, Lucia in a hoodie that reads Baddie, past a boutique called Josefina. Swap, split, change. Fugitive craft as mechanics.
Two minutes of everything else
From 17:07 the reveal becomes a census of things you can do. Airboat in the Grassrivers. Basketball with shoot and aim prompts at 17:13. Cave diving with an oxygen bar. Lucia bench pressing plates branded Gainz with rhythm prompts on the bar, feeding the body change system Rockstar has already spoken about. Jetskis at sunset. Spying through binoculars into a lit window, with a zoom control. Kayaking under the bridges. Then racing, twice over. A daytime circuit race at 17:41 with laps, a live timer and position eleven of sixteen, and later, at 20:22, a completely different street discipline with a progress percentage, checkpoints, wrapped tuners running underglow neon, and a stadium on the horizon whose sign reads Fleeca Field. The bank has a stadium. There are range drills with a target count, a dirt bike race, a Fleeca branch robbery at 18:00, a body in a car boot at 18:12, and the moment of the whole reveal at 18:24. An NPC named Camilo livestreams himself from the boot of a moving car at fifty one thousand viewers while his chat screams King of Trunk, and a prompt offers to let you watch the stream. In game. On R3.
The club night
The glam stretch from 19:11 is its own short film. A suited pickup at a private terminal with champagne served airside. A black jet at night. A torch lit greeting at a dock. Twin pink towers standing over the water like a gateway. A helicopter flyover of a deco tower crowned with a glowing rainbow arch. A neon sign reading Megamundo. A rainbow lit colonnade, then a red staircase lined with actual burning tealights. A turnstile with a green arrow, a greeter in a fedora, and a balloon arch that smells strongly of opening night. On the way up, the camera makes sure you see a dark room full of green glowing security screens. Then a long, patient vigil as Jason watches the party from an unfinished floor above, and a message arrives from Lucia with a cartoon avatar of herself. Guys everywhere, in capitals. Fireworks burst over the skyline through the window as he reads it.
The raid on floor 26
At 23:15 armed men in white coveralls and respirators pour out of the lift, and the twist is written in props rather than dialogue. The floor is mid renovation. A ladder, dust sheets, a cleaning cart, blue tape on the boards, a wet floor sign. The raiders came dressed as the contractors. The fight that follows gives up two of the biggest finds in the reveal. At 25:21 the hits register as coloured splats on the target himself, red where a shot would kill, yellow where it merely disables, while a second bar with an eye icon tracks detection under the health readout. And at 25:25 comes the sequence we think people will still be talking about at launch. A raider pins a woman to the floor. The reticle settles on him and holds, pulsing, and the game never offers a clean shot because she is underneath. Then she makes it irrelevant, fighting out of the pin, twisting his arm, reversing him and finishing it herself before rising barefoot. The camera closes the sequence on a still life. A dropped pistol beside the toppled wet floor sign.
The interface tells its own story
Add it up and the HUD alone confirms a design language. A pink heart health bar with segments. A detection meter. Ammo pairs with a silhouette that swaps to match the equipped weapon. Wanted stars with a response readout. A minimal ring reticle for vehicles and a triple ring with a fill pulse for people. Prompt chips that stack four verbs deep. Message bubbles with memoji avatars. Reaction emotes on animals. Bespoke overlays for circuit racing, street racing, range drills, diving and live streams. None of this was in a press release. All of it is on screen.
